Cardiothoracic Surgeon


The Division of Cardiovascular Surgery in the Sprott Department of Surgery and the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre at the University Health Network and the University of Toronto are inviting applications for the position of Cardiovascular Surgeon at the University Health Network- Toronto General Hospital and Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. The effective date of this appointment is flexible, tentatively aiming for March 1, 2024. 

The successful candidate must have broad experience in all aspects of cardiac surgical care including coronary artery bypass, valvular surgery, aortic procedures, and advanced heart failure including cardiac transplantation. Additional training or expertise in a focused clinical area of expertise such as reconstructive valve surgery, minimally invasive, or robotic surgery is welcome. In addition to a requisite track record of exemplary clinical results, the applicant should be an academic cardiac surgeon with a drive to contribute to the academic mission of the division. This may include evidence of excellence in research or education or having demonstrated leadership skills in various aspects of academic cardiac surgery.

The appointment at UHN would be for a Surgeon Investigator position. The candidate must be eligible for an appointment at the academic rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. They must hold a MD degree, and certification in Cardiac Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or a recognized equivalent certifying body. The individual must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. All candidates must be proficient in English. 

University Health Network is comprised of the Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, and The Michener Institute of Education.  It is one of Canada’s largest and leading clinical and research hospitals. UHN is an academic institution affiliated with the University of Toronto and is recognized internationally for excellence in patient care, innovation, research, and education. 

The Division of Cardiovascular Surgery at UHN is comprised of 7 full-time clinical faculty members and offers the entire breadth of cardiac surgery, including reconstructive valve surgery, complex aortic surgery, advanced heart failure, minimally invasive, and adult congenital surgery. Members of the division work closely with each other and in collaboration with our colleagues from the Department of Anesthesia and the Divisions of Cardiology and Vascular surgery.

The salary range will be between $600,000 and 700,000 and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
