- Vice President of Physician Services
Description
The Vice President of Physician Services serves as a key member of the senior executive team of the Scheurer organization. This individual provides oversight and direction to physicians, other providers and their associated clinics and functions. This individual is essential in the recruitment, retention and operations of physicians and other providers.
Demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her/their attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of Scheurer and the commitment to patient quality and safety. Demonstrates a commitment to the communities that Scheurer serves and actively promotes “Better Health. Better Life”. Carries a central role in the overall financial success of the organization.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for the following budget and departmental operations: physician clinics, including rural health clinics, Scheurer Vision and associated clinic services including care coordination, clinic social workers, mental health services and diabetes education. Essential in the recruitment, retention and operations of physicians and other providers. Oversees other areas as assigned periodically by the CEO. Develops and supervises leadership personnel accordingly.
- Participates in strategic planning process and actively works toward important accomplishment of goals and objectives detailed in the strategic plan.
- Provides leadership to assigned areas in a manner that encourages our intensely collaborative work culture (The Scheurer Way). Provides timely feedback to their direct reports and creates a climate for growth and development doing timely performance appraisals and mentoring.
- Works closely with medical staff in order to meet quality and strategic goals. Actively participates in assigned medical staff meetings and follows through with activities.
- Attends Board of Trustees meetings, as necessary, and provides the Board with reports and updates regarding areas of responsibility.
- Provides leadership in critical thinking, conflict management, problem solving, and human resource development.
- Works collaboratively with the senior executive team to achieve success targets for quality, patient satisfaction, employee satisfaction, patient volumes and net operating margin.
- Develops and implements strategies for improving quality and increasing efficiencies (reducing cost) through process improvement activities.
- Actively participates and provides input into corporate wide decisions.
- Presents and communicates to a variety of constituencies both internal and external to the Scheurer organization. Represents the organization in a professionally responsible way at all times.
- Seeks opportunities to expand the Scheurer portfolio of services, leads service expansion projects, and directs appropriate promotion of the Scheurer portfolio of services.
Supervisory Responsibility
- Approximately 25 direct reports, including providers
- Approximately 110 indirect reports
- Rounds with staff and acts as mentor to the personnel reporting to this position; investing time in the development of knowledge, social capital, and psychosocial support of these individuals.
- Reviews time keeping records on bi-weekly schedule prior to payroll and resolves any outstanding issues.
- Develop and manage an annual operational budget.
- Reviews staffing plan for efficiency, training needs, goals, and future planning.
- Establish departmental staff orientation and education plan, training, competencies and performance review including review of employees meeting health and safety expectations.
- Participates in and supports Incident Command; responds to and addresses emergency situations.
- This position is considered a “Key Employee” under Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
Qualifications
Education
- Master’s Degree or equivalent in business or healthcare related field required.
Related Experience
- Five to ten years of progressively responsible experience. Five of these years must have involved managerial responsibility in a healthcare environment.
