Description

Nephrologist Responsibilities:

  • Integrating the core values and mission of the Practice into inpatient and outpatient care services.
  • Maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME), State Medical License, and any other mandatory training prior to license expiration.
  • Work in collaboration with the educational departments to ensure medical students, Residents, Interns and Fellows obtain appropriate medical training when rotating on the Nephrology Service
  • Provide consultation to medical patients from the Emergency Department, Renal Clinic, Inpatient setting, Outpatient setting and Dialysis Unit.
  • Provide direct professional Nephrology services to patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting.
  • Evaluate, treat and manage patients with known or suspected renal disease, including Kidney diseases, Hypertension, Kidney transplant and Dialysis patients.
  • Develop treatment plans to include but not limited to: dialysis (both hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, slow low efficiency dialysis), rounds on hospitalized patients, attending in the Renal Clinic, writing of patient related orders and writing prescription medications, writing for consultative services, diet instruction, and other physician driven or exclusive decisions.
  • Provide on-call coverage as assigned during normal working hours, holidays, nights and weekends, as agreed upon by the nephrologists.
  • Provide and/or participate in the resident didactic and clinical care education program for any residents, students, or clinical staff as needed.
  • Provide both medical and technical support, as applicable, to RNs, LPNs, Health Technicians, PA-Cs and NPs as needed.
  • Write medical reports and offer consultation to patients. 
  • Adhere to all federal and state regulations related to Compliance in the Healthcare Setting.
  • Referring patients to surgeons.
  • Complete medical documentation in a timely fashion

Nephrologist Requirements:

  • Doctoral degree in Medicine or foreign equivalent
  • Graduate of an Accredited Nephrology Training Program.
  • Board certification in Nephrology required.
